WHAT ARE LAID EDGES?

Laid edges are the soft and sleek baby hairs along your hairline that have been styled. Edges can be swirled and shaped to enhance one’s look. This is usually done with an edge control product and a small brush with fine bristles.

WHY SHOULD YOU LAY YOUR EDGES?

Laid edges are the perfect finishing touch to most hairstyles. Laid edges can go a long way in giving one a well-polished and sleek look.

IS LAYING YOUR EDGES BAD FOR YOUR HAIR?

Much like any other hairstyle, whether it’s bad for your hair usually depends on the hair styling products and technique used. Depending on the edge control product you use, frequent usage can cause build up, flakes and breakage. As long as you’re using a good edge control product, moisturiser and a gentle hand, your baby hairs will be safe.

HOW TO LAY EDGES

1: STYLE YOUR HAIR Most people find it easier to style their baby hairs once they’ve decided how to wear their hair. So whether you’re rocking a high bun, half up half down, or something entirely different go ahead and style your hair

2: WORK WITH DAMP HAIR

Wet your hair! While you don’t want your baby hairs to be soaking wet, you certainly don’t want them dry either. Use a spray bottle to spritz water on your edges

3: FIND THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB

As baby hairs are so fine and wispy you’ll want to use a brush that will give you more control. We recommend using a toothbrush. The small bristles on a toothbrush are gentle enough to brush the fine hair around your hairline with minimal damage. Brush hair in place using a toothbrush after applying your gel products.

Use your dampened toothbrush to do just that—brush your baby hairs forward and down your forehead.

4: USE THE RIGHT EDGE CONTROL PRODUCT

Everyone’s personal preference is different when it comes to choosing what product to use. For long-lasting hold we recommend using gel such as the Rooted Range Twist & Lock Gel. It’s also a good idea to look for a product that’s moisturizing and doesn’t have too much alcohol in the formula.

5: CURL YOUR BABY HAIRS THE RIGHT WAY

Once you’ve picked out your edge control product, you’ll need just a drop to shape your baby hairs. Place a small amount on your toothbrush and brush your hairs, so that they’re curling toward your hairline. Try a simple curve or get a little more creative with a wave shape, depending on the length of your baby hairs and the look you’re going for; you just don’t want your baby hairs to be curving down your forehead.

6: SET YOUR EDGES

Last but not least, it’s important to set your baby hairs. To do so, Wrap your edges with a silk scarf until the gel dries. You can do this for a few minutes before heading out the door or overnight if you’re laying your edges in advance.
